Open practice with coaching Wednesday, 5:30-7

Thanks to everyone who came to our open practice on Friday! Please come to our open session in A-300 this Wednesday (November 17) 5:30-7pm. You can have time to practice your monologues, songs, dances, etc., and we'll have faculty mentors there to give you advice on your pieces for the December performance!

Also, remember, November 19, Friday, is the last day to add an act to the show! Please email Monica Poole (mcpoole at bhcc dot mass dot edu) with an idea for what you might like to do ASAP. If you want to be part of the show but you're not sure what you want to do, let us know--we can help you brainstorm!

Hello! We hope many of you will join us on December 10 at 6pm. We're holding an open coaching and brainstorming session on THIS Friday, November 12, 3:30-5, in A-300 auditorium. Please come, bring the monologues/songs/choreography/whatever you are working on for December's performance--or, if you need to find a piece, bring your best ideas! Acting workshop November 5, 4:30, A-300

We'll have an acting-focused workshop at 4:30pm on THIS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 5, in A-300 auditorium. This workshop will be led by Bill Pendergast, whom many of you met at the audition workshop two weeks back. This will focus on preparing monologues, so please, bring a monologue or two--ideally, bring a monologue or two that you might like to perform in our upcoming performance on December 10! Remember, the theme of the December 10 performance is social justice issues (abuse, violence, poverty, sexuality, race, gender, and many, many more), so please choose a monologue that fits in with a social justice issue. Workshop 10/28

Remember, in December Take a Bow will present a performance festival on the theme of social justice. We'll use the skills you're learning in the performing arts--music, dance, drama, spoken word, WHATEVER--to create and send a memorable message about how to make the world a better place. December is only a bit more than a month away, so we need to start planning! This week, Thursday, October 28, from 5 to 7, we'll have a workshop on brainstorming and creating acts for our performance in December! The room is still to be announced. Begin thinking about what you might like to perform, and what message you might like to send. We'll work on this more on Thursday. And, as always, tell your friends--the more, the merrier! Audition workshop (part 1) FRIDAY 4-6 PM

Hi all! Thanks to everyone who attended last week's event. This week, on Friday, October 22, we will host a workshop covering audition techniques across the disciplines (dance, instrumental music, singing, acting), in room A-300 (the auditorium) from 4pm to 6pm. This will be run collaboratively with artists from across the college including a Yale School of Music grad and prizewinning violinist, and an Emerson College grad and SAG actor, along with your usual coordinators, Profs. Poole and Schyrokyj, will team up to give you tips from across the performing arts disciplines on that most important and most feared moment of any performer's life: the audition. We'll talk about conquering nerves and jitters, getting your mind in the right place, preparing an audition repertoire, practicing in advance of an audition, and the different kinds of auditions you might expect--among more things. And remember, like always this won't just be talking: this is going to be an interactive workshop, so be prepared to get your hands dirty! First meeting!

The first meeting for Take a Bow will take place on October 14, at 4pm, in B-124 (a classroom on the first floor of B building, also known as the music room). We'll get to know one another, play a few improv games, and do a bit of stretching and figure out what we want to do in anticipation of our season of workshops and our performance at the semester's end!

Welcome! This is the blog for Take a Bow, a Common Interest Community at Bunker Hill Community College in Boston, MA. Take a Bow is a learning community for the performing arts. More specifically, we are a co-curricular (out of class) community where you can explore your talents, begin to master skills in the performing arts (including music, drama, and dance), and stage a production at the end of the semester. We work to complement and collaborate with student organizations at BHCC and formal classes at BHCC that touch on music, drama, dance, and related topics. We are led by a team of faculty and staff, and centered on you, the students, and focused on helping you learn what you want and need to learn to make art through performance. NO experience is necessary--if you are at BHCC student, and you are curious about getting involved in music, drama, dance, working behind the scenes to make performances happen, or all of the above, please come and visit us or comment on this blog!
